At GAMINO DÉCOR, we are passionate about our work. So, as you can imagine, getting invited to showcase our gifts and talents as part of the renovation happening on HGTV’s “A Very Brady Renovation,” was an opportunity like no other. We are so grateful to Anne Shea of Anne Shea Interiors who, along with her assistant Juan, found us along with many of the other vendors who worked on the Brady House.
This project was fun and fulfilling but it was definitely not without its challenges. As you may or may not know, the house that was filmed for the exterior shots, looked nothing like the interior of the house – those scenes were all filmed in a studio. When the original Brady House came on the market, HGTV bought it for the purpose of creating a whole house that replicated what the viewers saw on the show. This was no small feat. The show originally aired in 1969, making the house 50 years old. Recreating that vintage 70’s vibe was tricky.
The projects assigned to GAMINO DÉCOR included the black chairs in Mike’s den, the orange seats on the dining room chairs, the yellow chairs surrounding the round table in the family room just outside the kitchen, the green chair with the matching ottoman, and daybed bolsters (also in the family room) and the duvet cover in the master bedroom. Our first challenge was that the photos we were given to use as reference all had different tones. In order to correctly match the look of the furniture, we had to repeatedly search online to find episodes that included the appropriate furniture. In addition, the yellow chairs didn’t come with the right stain, so we re-stained the chairs. We ran out of the black vinyl for the den chairs, and we also helped locate the hard-to-find blue fabric for the master bedroom.
There were several issues along the way, but GAMINO DÉCOR loves a good challenge and honestly those hiccups made the job fun. One of the perks of being part of the team was touring the house before the public. The home felt as retro as it looked on tv, back in the day. Walking through the finished house was a little eerie and surreal, but the renovation results are incredible. We are so grateful that GAMINO DÉCOR was invited to play a part and we look forward to more opportunities in the future.
