Paying attention to your windows can make all the difference in world when it comes to creating a well-decorated home interior. The curtains that adorn your windows can tie together the overall look and feel of the room.
However, your curtains’ ability to serve as compelling decor can be hindered by the inability to correctly put them on display.
So, how exactly can you ensure you are hanging your curtains in a way that creates a more dynamic interior? Follow these tips to help enhance your room and create harmony with your decor:
- Raise the rod
One of the most common mistakes that diminish the appearance of the room are curtain rods that are placed too low. If the curtain rode is placed just below the window frame, it creates a lot of space between the ceiling and window- making the area stand out in a negative way. Instead, lift the curtain rod higher, placing it closer to the ceiling. This lifts peoples’ gazes and makes the ceiling appear higher and the room larger.
- Go long
Instead of featuring curtains that are cut short, opt for curtains that are no more than half an inch above the floor. If you prefer a dreamier, European feel, consider the “puddle tactic” by simply allowing the curtains to cascade onto the floor.
- One size does NOT fit all
An often repeated (but easily correctable) mistake is the selection of a curtain rod that isn’t the proper size. It is important to select a rod that allows you to fully display your windows when the curtains are open. Allowing natural sunlight to enter the living space illuminates the room and the open window actually serves to make the room appear larger. Aim to find a rod that extends 6-10 inches on either side of the window frame.
While curtains are only one attribute in the total makeup of your interior, following these simple tips can be influential in maximizing the visual appeal of the room. Check out GAMINO DÉCOR’s window treatment options, or if you are looking to design your own, check out our fabric selection!
